Probably closer to a thousand...but yeah, you get my point.
We'd love to get around and tour though.

Re: Skyliner
I wish I was more involved with that type of thing. I used to go to concerts (local bands or otherwise) a lot, and now I don't. If you guys make it on a tour way out here, that'd be really awesome! I hope the band really takes off!
Re: Skyliner
The clips sound really good and show the growth of the band. Good job guys.

Re: Skyliner
I would say these are top examples of what to *basically* expect from us at this point..which is one reason we selected them out of all the stuff we have that isn't recorded or anything yet. These aren't even very brand new, they're up to 2 years old already, so... things have sort of arrived for a while now.......but just saying.............if you like the songs, they're excellent representations of us and our material as a whole and that's the kinda thing you can keep expecting.

*waits with baited breath*
Just remember it's myyyspace and they do that thingy to the sound. It came out surprisingly good on there anyhow though.

Re: Skyliner
Hopefully, it's the myspace effect I'm hearing, because while I really like the music itself, the overall sound doens't really ppeal to me. Too much midrange, the bass doesn't seem to have a presence in the mix...I assume you're going for a slightly raw, Euro-ish rhythm tone with the guitar, and THAT is EXTREMELY well done. GREAT rhythm tone. Couldn't get a bead on the lead tone, because, well, with 6 kids causing chaos in the background, that's a bit tough
Overall, it's not 100% my thing, but VERY well done, young lads. Wish we lived a bit closer (like, oh, 4 or 5 STATES closer) so I could catch you guys live......

Re: Skyliner
Cool! I wasn't necessarily going for a raw Euro type thing, since I have this sound in my head how it's supposed to sound... but it did turn out decent for what I've got and what we put into it..... it'll probably be tweaked slightly more before it gets pressed to CD.
You sure about that bass thing....? lol because.....the bass is actually up pretty loud. Listen during the leads or sometimes there'll be little counter things going on under the rhythm guitar... like the slapping in the riff before the verse in 'Vendetta'..
Don't worry, there's definitely some strong bass. I'm not one for the whole make-the-bass-invisible thing. Great tone too if I might say so.

Re: Skyliner
I've got a 5 speaker surround system with a good sub hooked up to the computer, bro.....I could easily HEAR the basslines....but it didn't "feel as far "up" in the mix is it seemed like the music was calling for. Kinda came off as the guitar and vocals are almost pushed TOO far in front of the ass and drums., if that makes sense.
It should also be noted that I am a BIG fan of the more modern production styles, where the bass is VERY loud in the mix.....not of having it blend in with the guitar that you can't really hear it, but only "feel" it, but having that same relative level od "l;oudness" and still being crisp and audible.....
my personal preferences would have the vocals dialed back a notch or two, the guitar dialed back just a hair, and a louder bass mix, with more low end emphasis on that specific instrument.....

Re: Skyliner
It's always interesting how stuff sounds on different systems or speakers. Black Rider said he thought the drums seemed most far up, while you're hearing them being pushed back some. It's one reason it will be *tweaked* just a bit more before it gets pressed to CD. Since I don't know a lot about the extreme technical aspects of mixing it gets to be a pain to be shelling out the money and saying stuff like "the thingy here should have that one part of it kinda sound like this but not quite like this..wait wait turn that one thing you just did back again.." etc...
I *think* I get what you're saying with the bass... maybe... although keep in mind a lot of modern albums and a lot of newer extreme metal albums, the style of bass playing is sort of a different animal in the first place and can be afforded that sort of mix. I on the other hand always had the idea of the whole sound together kind of making the system bump rather than the bass driving it... I try and have the bassist act as another guitarist in a lot of ways..like if you've ever heard the 'Morningrise' album by Opeth... that's what I prefer for us..not quite that extreme in execution but you get the idea.

I get what you are saying, Jake. I also just found out that someone (the Mrs., most likely) had turned on a "live environment" sound treatment, as well, which you guessed it, boosts mids and vocals ....so, I will head back over to the page and see what sort of difference tha tmakes....
I wan't to give you guys an honest, balanced assesment here......

Re: Skyliner
Hey, it's no kind of problem. It is being billed as a demo and cost about as much as one, after all. If I had $ and studio time/engineers the ways I want, there would be a full album and the sound would be crushing, one of the heaviest classic/power metal CD's out. I'm happy about it for what it is and what we *were* able to do this time around and it's not a big problem if some people might dislike some element of the mixing, etc. It's all about the songs. This will be the thing which is the calling card that hopefully brings us some better fortune.

Re: Skyliner
OK, yeah, 1 minute into it, and.....one should ALWAYS remember to double check little things like media player sound enhancements.......my bad.
EXCELLENT work. Please disregard my previous negative criticisms.....I think that the comment on the drums is spot on, but ONLY for the toms....that tom barrage at the beginning of Symphonies is a touch overwhelming.....
Where's my "facepalm" emoticon when I need it?

I totally understand the $$$ thing....but, hey, at least you've got a "band" situation"...me, I'm broke, with a pile of riffs I don't really know what to do with, and no drummer or bass player to work with....lol

Re: Skyliner
Haha, my engineer said the same thing about the opening to that song. "Do you think the tom effect is a little too heavy?" and I said "No.."
I'm just happy you dig it. I'm happy anyone digs it, for any reason.
Here's some links for mp3's... they'll only stay up a day or two:
'Symphony in Black'
'Vendetta'
'Aria of the Waters'
Just remember things might sound a little different depending where you play 'em, and also, they're the 98% definitive files.. but little things will be slightly adjusted some before the CD is pressed..like there's two small vocal things..won't say where.. where I will be having them mixed accordingly as they don't sound to me like they have the same levels as everything else. And these mp3s have no tags..but you can put something like 'Skyliner [demo]' for the album one, since it's gonna be self-titled.

the more I hear this stuff, the more I like it.
Nice to hear the harsh vocals at the end of Symphony

Do you mean 'Symphony in Black' or 'Aria of the Waters'? Because there *are* a small amount of "death growls" in the latter...

Re: Skyliner
haven't gotten all the way thru Aria yet, myspace keeps cutting out.
The song Myspace plays as Symphony in Black has a very short harsh vocalled thing right arond 7 minutes, it's only one vocal phrase, and just befor ethe song ends. I was pleasantly surprised......

oh, that. Yeah, that occurs at another point too, right after the second chorus.
There's the links for files up there if you don't wanna put up with the MySpace anymore.. it's understandable.

Re: Skyliner
Reviews from last night at work: last night, I had the other 4 guys each come up individually and ask me who that 1st song I played was, because it was one of the best things they'd heard in a long time. I'm not joking, this was a universal reaction from them, and they each asked at seperate times! The song in question is "Aria of the Waters"
I was also fairly stunned myself. I have one of those Keanu Reeves "whoah...." moments once in a VERY great while the first time I listen to something......and this song was the first one of those in well over a year. The mood and performances are just short of perfect. (and yes, BFTD, that INCLUDES my assesment of the keys!!! )
I currently tab this song as my pick for "song of the year", out of EVERYTHING I've heard thus far. It has this blend of "Morgion tossed in a blender with Maiden" going on that just KILLS me....A full disc of tunes like that, and there would be a TREMENDOUS likelyhood that the only reason you guys wouldn't supplant Dagon as my 2nd favorite band would be the simple fact that I have a long term freindship with them! I am stunned and amazed, gentlemen.......

Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as fond of the striahgt powermetal tunes. They are EXACTLY the type of flowermetal I tend to listen to, they just don't grab me the way Aria does....

Re: Skyliner
Thank you for the kind words.
It's nice to see something we work on in such a collaborative effort gets such a good response. I know OCI is even more pleased than I am.

Re: Skyliner
Wow.................very very nice words... quite humbling I guess I have no excuse for anything anymore now that people are listening.. I'll be trolling companies after this is pressed to try and get at least one record out before everybody stops buying CD's period.
Seriously, really amazing stuff to read, coolest thing I've seen in weeks. Hopefully the other two songs grow some too since it's most of what we do and what we do best. And you can always expect *something* no matter what the song is, to separate it and make it stand out. I'll use just about anything to give a song what it needs or what sounds good, as long as it doesn't make it sound like a totally different band or anything.
Thanks again.....................
